About Exodus
Exodus is a Jabber client available on the Windows platform. It is fast, quick to set up, and easy to use. To learn more about eXodus, see their website/.
Configuring eXodus for Jabber
eXodus is a very simple Jabber client to use. In fact, once it has been installed, the process of connecting to eXtension's Chat Server is already very close to being complete.
The first time eXodus is opened, it will automatically open the Default Profile Details window.

- The Jabber ID field should contain a person's eXtensionID@chat.extension.org
- The password field should contain the same password as the one used to access/modify the wikis.
- To reset a forgotten password, visit this page.
- The resource field should be left to the default value
- Save password should be checked if a person does not wish to type in their password
Once these steps are complete, the process is nearly finished. All that is remains it to examine the Connection and Encryption Settings.
The Connection settings can be accessed by clickong on the Connection tab located on the top portion of the Default Profile Details window.

The default settings should not have to be changed in order to connect to eXtension's Chat Server. However, it is best to confirm that the correct settings are being used. As long as the Automatically discover host and port box is checked, the eXodus Connection settings are correct.
The Encryption settings can be accessed similarly to the Connection settings. Click on the Encryption tab to view the encryption settings. Like the Connection settings, the Encryption settings should only be modified if they are not the same as the picture below.

Once the Default Profile settings are confirmed, eXodus is ready to connect to eXtension's Chat Server!
Signing On
In order to log in to the eXtension Chat Server, simply click the Sign On link in the main window of eXodus

The Login prompt will then ask which profile needs to be connected. Select the Profile that was created to connect to the eXtension Chat Server, and click OK.
To verify that the correct Profile has been selected, the Login ID below the profile name should the eXtension ID entered earlier.

Adding Contacts
The purpose of configuring eXodus is to chat, so it would make sense that knowing the status of those people is important! Like nearly every other IM client, eXodus has a Contact, or Buddy List.
To add a Contact, click on the Add Contact Button that resembles a Plus Sign.

Because the eXtension Chat Server is a Jabber server, the contact type for all people should be left as Jabber.
The Contact ID is the Contact's Jabber ID. A person named Jon A Smith would have the Jabber ID jasmith@chat.extension.org.

Another feature that eXodus provides is Contact Groups. This allows a user to organize contacts based on any criteria the user determines. To create a new Group, type the Group Name in the Group field.
To add a new Contact to an existing Group, choose the desired Group from the Group field when adding the Contact to the Contact List.
Once this has been completed, click OK. The Contact is added to the list. The added contact will now be visible in the Contact List whenever they are logged in to the eXtension Chat Server.
Conference Chats
If the need arises to talk to multiple people at the same time, a conference chat may be a good avenue to take. To join or create a conference chat, select the appropriate choice from the Exodus menu located at the top left of your contact list.

Exodus now presents the Conference interface. Here you can choose to join an existing conference, or create your own, depending on your selection.

To join an existing conference, simply enter the name of the desired conference and click finish. If you do not know the exact name of the conference chat you are joining, click on the Browse servers for a room to join bubble and then click finish. If you want to create your own, click on the Join or Create the following room button in the middle portion of the Conference interface. When you create a chat, you can determine the name and topic of the room, as well as whether or not it will be accessible to everyone by specifying a password. The interface also allows the user to create permanent conferences, which will not go away after everyone leaves the room.
The room will remain locked until these configuration choices are made.
