    eXtensionID Password Recommendations

The eXtensionID password change tool does not currently enforce any password restrictions. Therefore it is strongly recommended that your password:

    • contain at least 8 characters
    • contain at least one capital letter
    • contain at least one lowercase letter
    • contain at least one special character (not a letter or numeral)
    • not contain anything that people might associate with you, such as your name, your name backwards, your initials, friend's name, pet's name, birthdays or anniversaries.
    • be easy for you to remember so that you won't be tempted to write it down

The best passwords are "mnemonic passwords" - these are usually as secure as randomly generated passwords and far easier to remember. Use a sentence or phrase based on little-known personal information - and construct a password out of the first or second letters of that phrase. For example, if you were a big fan of George Strait and negative on the chances of NC State making it to a bowl game - you might pick the sentence "If State makes it to a bowl, I'll buy oceanfront property in Arizona" - taking the first letter from the sentence and changing a few letters to numerals might produce: ISmitabI'llb0piA (note the uppercase, numeral, and special character).
