Using Graphics and Images - Slide 2

    • Pictures keep readers' attentions
    • Too many pictures/images can delay download for readers
    • Be sure that images support the educational content and are not just "eye candy"

Intellectual Property Considerations - Slide 3

    • Go over points of slide
    • Goal is that we can syndicate all content so that states and counties can use it in their websites
    • Best copyrighted images to use are Public Domain images because there are no restrictions on use
    • Royalty Free can sometimes be misleading, be sure to read the fine print on use

Finding Appropriate Graphics - Slide 4

    • Where to get graphics you can use:
    - Creative Commons
    - Flickr
    - Wikimedia Commons
    - USDA site at UMD (public domain)

    File/Image Considerations - Slide 5

    • Some images need to be resized
    • Smaller images should not be made bigger because they become distorted
    • Save images at resolution of 72 dpi, shoot for 300 x 225
    • Format images in either jpg or png

Loading to the Wiki - Slide 6

    • Ask yourself these questions before uploading:
    - Do I have the right to upload this image, is it copyrighted?
    - Is it the appropriate size, format, and resolution?

    • If yes to these questions, then upload!
    • Go over additional points of the slide
